Irrational fears or phobias such as a fear of flying or fear of spiders tend to be learned early in life and can be difficult to shake off.
Rationalising, or trying to remove the fear through logic alone, often makes the problem even worse. It’s almost like you are fighting with yourself and although the solution feels as if it should be very simple, it rarely is.
Why is it so hard to remove phobias and irrational fears through determination and willpower?
Phobias are by definition not rational and so can’t possibly be removed though logical thinking alone. You need to be able to ‘feel’ safe without the phobia. After all, phobias really are just a protection mechanism and, strange as it may seem, are actually there to help you!
Because these fears exist in the unconscious part of our minds, hypnosis is a very effective way of overcoming them. Often just a few sessions of hypnotherapy can remove phobias or unhelpful fears permanently, leaving you free to enjoy you life to its fullest.
